A house that keeps the mountain’s time
How the dial works
From the floor of the Fischleintal, the sun crosses five summits on its way from east to west. Locals named each after the hour it marks: the Neuner at nine, the Zehner at ten, the Elfer at eleven, the Zwölfer at noon and the Einser at one. It runs on solar time, not on your phone: in summer the sun reaches the Zwölfer at about ten past twelve, in winter at about ten past eleven.
The family
Anna and Lukas took over the house from Anna’s parents, who opened four rooms above the barn in 1986. It has twelve now, and the barn is the Hay Loft. Anna does the mornings and the bread. Lukas knows which paths are clear of snow in May and which hut still has a table at one.
Getting here
By train to Innichen (San Candido), then the regional bus to Sexten, about fifteen minutes; we collect you from the stop in Moos. By car it is about two hours from Innsbruck, two and a half from Venice airport and four from Munich. Parking is free behind the house.
